‘Explore New York’ From Cover To Cover
Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder is encouraging children and parents to participate in the Assembly’s Summer Reading Challenge for the upcoming July and August.
This year, the Assembly is again coordinating its efforts with the New York State Library’s “Summer Reading at New York Libraries” to spread the word about summer reading and the value of our local libraries. This year’s theme will be, “Explore New York.”
“There are so many activities for children to enjoy in the summer months and reading should be at the top of the list. Our annual reading challenge is something parents can do with their kids, not only as a great way to spend time together but as a way to ensure that their children are better prepared for the fall,” Goldfeder said.
Children who read with a parent for 15 minutes a day, for at least 40 days throughout July and August, will receive an Assembly Excellence in Reading Certificate acknowledging their achievement.
Materials, including suggested reading lists and a calendar to mark off the days children read, can be picked up at their local school or at Goldfeder’s district offices in Rockaway Beach and Ozone Park.
“In a few weeks school will be out for the summer, but education and reading should not come to a halt,” said Goldfeder. “The Summer Reading Challenge is a fun way to pass long summer days and prepare for the upcoming school year.”
