Bank Thief Cashes Out

Steals Money With Note In Ozone Pk.

Thousands of dollars in cash was reportedly stolen by a note-carrying bandit who visited a bank in Ozone Park during a heist last Saturday afternoon, Apr. 14, police reported.

According to law enforcement sources, the caper took place at around 12:15 p.m. at the Chase bank located at 96-19 101st Ave.

Reportedly, the perpetrator-described as an African-American male who was wearing a gray baseball cap, a matching sweatshirt and gray and black gloves-entered the location and slipped a demand note to the teller.

Police sources stated that the thief claimed to be armed with a gun in his message to the employee. It was later determined during an investigation that no weapon was displayed.

After receiving about $8,000 from the teller, authorities noted, the perpetrator fled from the scene in an unknown direction.

Members of the 102nd Precinct responded to the incident. Despite a canvass of the surrounding area for the suspect, no immediate arrests were made.

As of press time, police have not determined if the caper is related to any similar, active bank robbery patterns in Queens.
