FAR ROCKAWAY — The Queens district attorney charged a 60-year-old Far Rockaway man with sexual assault and robbery after authorities allegedly linked his DNA to evidence found at the scene of the crime.
On Feb. 27, Ronald Baker, of 318 Beach 85th St., allegedly followed a woman into her Jamaica apartment, held a knife to her side and demanded cash and valuables, the DA said.
After the woman forked over some jewelry, Baker sexually assaulted her, leaving a trace of semen on a floor mat that prosecutors allegedly matched to information contained in the DNA database, the DA said.
“Although a wanted poster sketch was circulated in the days following the alleged assault, the defendant was apprehended when his own body betrayed him and police were allegedly able to link his DNA to evidence found at the crime scene,” DA Richard Brown said in a statement.
Baker was charged with sexual assault and robbery, the DA said, and faces 12 1/2 years to life in prison if convicted.
