Area Art Studios Open Their Doors

Bushwick Open Studios June 1-3

Sites throughout Bushwick, Ridgewood, Bedford-Stuyvesant and East Williamsburg will participate ub the sixth annual Bushwick Open Studios and Arts Festival, from Friday, June 1 to 3.

BOS 2012 includes over 450 individual studios, shows and events involving thousands of artists.

The free annual festival invites visual artists, performers, musicians, designers and the public to celebrate creative expression in an area encompassing over 3 square miles.

On June 2 and 3, participating artists will open their studios from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Visitors will have the opportunity to view a variety of work and to meet and talk with the artists.

Several Informational hubs close to subway and bus lines will provide maps, promotional materials and information about studios and activities.

Some of BOS 2012’s highlighted festival events include:

– BOS Music Festival: June 1 from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m., June 2 from 8 p.m. to 3 .a.m, and June 3 from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Lone Wolf, 1089 Broadway and Expo 929, 929 Broadway, both in Bushwick.

– Seeking Space, June 1 from 7 p.m. to midnight, June 2 and 3 from noon to 7 p.m. at The Loom Gallery, at 1087 Flushing Ave. near the Bushwick/ East Williamsburg border.

Seeking Space is the official visual arts group exhibition for BOS, sourcing artists from a “seeking space” database. It features over 30 artists from Bushwick and beyond.

– Legal Basics for Artists! June 1 at 5:30 p.m. at Diana Jones Senior Center, 9 Noll St.

A panel of art lawyers who will provide artists (and the art-curious) with information about the basics of copyright, fair use, and artist-dealer consignment agreements.

– The Official BOS Launch Party, on June 1from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m. at 44 Wilson at, 44 Wilson Ave. in Bushwick. Featuring bands, comedy and visual arts.

– WOW Performance Art Showcase on June 2 at 7 p.m. at the House of Yes, located at 342 Maujer St. in East Williamsburg. The WOW show hopes to exhibit the glamorous side of performance, including dancers, conceptual contortionists, video break-dancers, aerialists, graphic choreographers, grotesque burlesque artists and experimental entertainers of all sorts.
