Win Big Despite Being Shorthanded
Despite having only seven players the Blau Weiss Gottschee U8Cs continued their winning ways with a 9-0 win over the BWG U8E at Brennan Field in Middle Village. Nick Ulloa led the scoring with five goals, Liam Molloy scored two and Ryan Wiseman and Matt Iriarte scored the others.
U10s
The U10A boys had a productive weekend. Playing a year up on Saturday, the Cosmos lost a close match to U11 Islas Malvinas by a 3-1 margin. The kids performed well in the first half and generally dominated possession, but a couple of mistakes cost them in the second. Nick Calderon was the lone scorer, connecting on a clever free kick.
On Sunday, the U10A Gottschee Cosmos avenged an earlier loss to the Commack Cosmos, beating their opponents 6-0 in the ENYYSA State Cup and advancing to the quarterfinals. After finishing the first half leading 1-0 on a goal from Eddie Wojnarowski, the boys scored two quick goals in the first five minutes of the second half to pull away. Matthew Vetell, Jason Lee, Daniel Curmi and Matthew Rubinstein scored for Gottschee in the second half, with Jeremy Saravia and Matthew Rubinstein adding assists. The boys played strong on defense as well, allowing three shots on goal for the entire match.
U12s
The Gottschee U12C played Asphalt Green and lost 1-0 Boys played very well, gave up a late second half goal and we missed a penalty. Overall a very good game with our boys enjoying more of the ball, just need to put it on the scoreboard.
U17s
The U17 green boys continue to hold first place with a 2-1 win against Millennium Soccer this Sunday at juniper. Captain Francisco Osorio had an excellent game by contributing assists to both of the Cosmos goals. The first goal was finished by Ivan Vulin in the first half with a header and by Mario Alvarez in the second half off another header.
The U17 green boys remain undefeated through seven games.
Girls’ U13s
This Sunday the BWG Cosmos GU13 girls played a fast paced physical game in the Division 1 LIJSL league vs Sound Beach Spirit. The Cosmos girls were the more technical team with good ball movement and speed to the ball. The BWG Cosmos defense and goalie were solid throughout the game and the offensive attack created some chances. The BWG Cosmos being the better and more dominant team had to settle for a (0-0) tie score.
99 Pre-Academy
The Cosmos 99 Blue pre-academy team had another successful weekend as they defeated FC Westchester in a pre-academy game 10-2 on Sunday.
