Fifth-graders at P.S. 88 in Ridgewood got a exclusive lesson on the construction process in New York City with the launch of the Department of Buildings’ third-annual Junior Architects and Engeineers Program last Thursday, May 3. As noted, Buildings Commissioner Robert LiMandri was on hand along with other department representatives and City Council Member Elizabeth Crowley to educate the youngsters on the agency’s functions as well as the role building projects play in the life of the city. The program also includes a field trip to the Department of Buildings offices in order for students to get a hands-on understanding on the plan review process. Shown with the students, LiMandri and Crowley are the department’s Queens borough commissioner, Ira Gluckman, and fifth-grade teacher Ira Handell.
