Fired At, Beat Up Man In Barber Shop
As part of their ongoing investigation, detectives collared a Brooklyn man last Thursday, May 3, who allegedly participated in the attempted murder of a 39-year-old man who was grazed by a shotgun blast inside a Ridgewood barber shop in March, police reported.
The suspect was identified by law enforcement sources as 35-year-old Orlando Irizarry of South Second Street in Williamsburg.
Reportedly, Irizarry acted in concert with another Brooklyn man- 37-year-old Hipolito (a.k.a. Jordan) Rodriguez of MacDougal Street in Ocean Hill-to attack the victim inside a barber shop located at the corner of Seneca Avenue and Menahan Street at around 9:05 p.m. on the evening of Mar. 10.
Rodriguez was arrested by the 104th Precinct Detective Squad nearly a week following the shooting after being identified as the suspect through a Facebook photo scanned by NYPD facial recognition software, as previously reported.
According to information provided by the Queens District Attorney’s office, Irizarry and Rodriguez entered the barber shop and confronted the 39-year-old victim, who was in the process of getting his hair cut.
Armed with a shotgun, police said, Rodriguez allegedly yelled at the victim, then fired a shot which grazed the man’s head, causing a laceration.
Seconds later, authorities noted, Irizarry and Rodriguez allegedly assaulted the victim, punching him about the body. During the attack, Rodriguez reportedly struck the man in the ribs several times with the shotgun.
Following the assault, law enforcement sources said, the pair allegedly fled from the scene on foot in an unknown direction.
Members of the 104th Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene. The 39-year-old victim was brought to a local hospital for treatment of the graze wound-which required seven staples to close-and other injuries which were not lifethreatening.
Rodriguez was arrested by detectives on Mar. 15 and charged with second-degree attempted murder, first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, menacing and harassment; he was later released on $25,000 bond.
Irizarry was taken into custody last Thursday and booked on the same charges as Rodriguez; he was arraigned last Saturday, May 5, in Queens Criminal Court before Judge James Griffin, who ordered him held without bail. The suspect is scheduled to return to court on May 18.
