Taking advantage of mild and dry conditions, volunteers in Sunnyside, Middle Village and Woodhaven teamed up for cleanups across their communities. In the top photo, Sunnyside residents joined City Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer last Saturday, May 19, to remove trash and graffiti tags from the Thomas Noonan Playground, located at the corner of Greenpoint and 46th avenues. At left are Middle Villagers who worked together last Saturday morning to spruce up the area of Juniper Valley Park near the Pullis Farm Cemetery, located off the corner of Juniper Boulevard North and 82nd Street. Among those who participated in the effort were State Sen. Joseph Addabbo (foreground, holding shirt) and Pullis Farm warden Florence Bennett (standing, fourth from left). Members of the Woodhaven Residents Block Association (WRBA) are pictured in the bottom photo outside their Jamaica Avenue office before they embarked on a graffiti cleanup of their neighborhood. Among those in the photo are WRBA President Ed Wendell (at far right), Assemblyman Mike Miller (at far left) and P.O. Joseph Martins of the 102nd Precinct Community Affairs Unit.
