Zoo’s New Arrival Needs a Name

The Queens Zoo is asking the public to suggest a name for the new Texas longhorn calf recently born at the Flushing Meadows-Corona Park wildife center. According to the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), the female calf was born in May to Joan, a seven-year-old cow (mother and daughter are shown in the photo above). The calf was 60 pounds at birth and is growing quickly; according to the WCS longhorn calves do not reach maturity until they are eight years old. As an adult her horns could grow to up to six feet from tip to tip. Visitors to the zoo’s website at www.queenszoo.com can visit “The Cattle Call: Name our Calf” page to submit a name for the new longhorn.
