Ecostation Will Hold a Fund- Raiser ‘in the Sky’

On E. Wmbg. Rooftop Farm Aug. 10

EcoStation:NY’s Farm In The Sky will hold the second in an ongoing series of fund-rasers on Friday, Aug. 10 at Brooklyn Fire Proof East in East Williamsburg.

Proceeds from the evening will go toward EcoStation’s drive to raise $5,000 by Aug. 18 in support of two current youth empowerment initiatives.

The first is the nonprofit’s Food & Social Justice Workshop. Twentyfive youths from the Bushwick High School Campus, Make the Road New York and El Puente’s Bushwick Leadership Center will participate in a seminar focusing on food justice issues and their impact on culture and society. Ten workshop attendees will be working for EcoStation this summer.

The second initiative is a stipend that would help Diamond Martin, a volunteer at the Bushwick Campus Farm, attend Brooklyn College in the fall.

Friday night’s fund-raiser, dubbed “Raise the Roof 2,” will include “Beekeeping 101” workshops and tours of the Farm In The Sky (located atop Brooklyn Fire Proof), a live reggae band, a mini farmer’s market, a photo exhibit by Katarzyna Gawin, an open-air jam session, and Farm In The Sky-inspired food and drink specials by Chef Marie Tribouilloy and local mixologists.

The festivities begin at 7 p.m., with a suggested $10 donation. For more information on the event as well as on the youth programs, visit www.EcoStationNY.org.
