La Adelita, a restaurant located at 52-22 Roosevelt Ave., opened its doors last month offering traditional Mexican fare.

La Adelita, which was named after a heroine of the Mexican Revolution, offers a comprehensive menu, including burritos, quesadillas, enchiladas, tacos, seafood, grilled steak and a kids menu.

The restaurant took over the space that was left vacant when Mojitos, a Cuban bar/restaurant, closed last year. This site was once the location of Michael’s Pub, well known to local gamblers  for its bookie.

But business has not been brisk since it opened.

“Business has been so-so,” said manager Maria Simon, who is hoping a little community outreach can turn things around. “We’re planning an open house in the very near future. We’ll send invitations to our neighbors, the schools and the churches.”

The restaurant has a large family style-dining room with outdoor seating in the back. It also has a deli/grocery attached, along with a bakery. “We have loaves of bakery fresh bread, any style, for a dollar,” said Ms. Simon.

La Adelita is open seven days a week from 10am to midnight.
