On Sunday, July 29, the REDNMF Sunday Lob Softball League had its championship series in Randalls Island.
It was a battle between two great teams, Red Rage and Slaughter House. Both teams ended the season in a tie for first place. The tie breaker (won by Red Rage) ended up being the overall runs scored through the regular season, as the two teams did not play each other during the season.
Red Rage chose to have home field in the first and third game. The first game started back and forth with the scoring, with Slaughter House starting things off and Red Rage playing catch up. Slaughter House ending up winning the first game 11-7.
The second game became a game of defense. Slaughter House held on to a lead of 2-1 until the sixth inning when they added one more run. Red rage grabbed one in the bottom of the inning to keep it a one-run lead. Slaughter House added two runs in the seventh to hold a 4-2 lead but Red Rage came back from behind to score three runs and take the win 5-4.
In the third and final game, Slaughter house took the lead going into the sixth inning, 7-4. Red Rage chipped away with two runs in the sixth inning. In the seventh, Red Rage scored one run with one runner on to tie the game, then scored on the next play to win the game and the title, 8-7.
This was a unique championship from the start, with two teams whom never faced off each other in the regular season meeting in the deciding third game of the championship series.
