Say Knife-Toting Youth Robbed Pair

Turned down by a pair of teens after asking for a dollar, a Glendale youth allegedly robbed them of their property at knifepoint along a neighborhood street last Thursday afternoon, Aug. 16, police reported.

Law enforcement sources said the suspected bandit, identified as 16 year old Michael Gaughan of 68th Place, was caught by police officers shortly after the stickup occurred.

Reportedly, the theft took place at around 5:30 p.m. last Thursday at the corner of 78th Avenue and 74th Street, in close proximity to P.S./I.S. 119.

According to information pro vided by the Queens District Attor ney’s office, Gaughan allegedly approached the two male victims, ages 16 and 17, and asked them for a dollar.

When the teenagers refused and walked away, authorities stated, the suspect followed them, then pulled out a knife and demanded money and a cell phone.

One of the teenagers reportedly provided Gaughan with a sum of cash; after receiving it, police said, he fled from the scene in an unknown direction.

The incident was reported to the 104th Precinct; there were no injuries.

Shortly thereafter, Gaughan was stopped by officers at the corner of Cooper Avenue and 71st Place. During a search, the officers recovered a gravity knife and a sum of cash alsources legedly stolen from one of the victims in his possession.

Gaughan was taken into custody and charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree attempted robbery, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal possession of a weapon.

According to court records, he was arraigned last Friday, Aug. 17, in Queens Criminal Court before Judge Lenora Gerald, who ordered him held on $5,000 bail. Gaughan is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 5.
