Ck Girls Kick Their Way to Fast Start

Three Wins To Open Campaign

The Christ the King girls’soccer team started the season with three wins in three games.

Even though the team lost six seniors from last season’s catholic high school Brooklyn/Queens championship team, the Lady Royals have played exciting soccer thanks to a fusion of veteran players and skilled newcomers.

The heart and soul of the team is made of co-captains Francesca Giglio and Cathy Lume who took over the leadership role as soon as training camp began. Shutdown defender Destiny Marino returns together with last year’s all star goalkeeper Kristen Drogsler. Aimee Tetelbaum, Vanessa Jordan and Jacqueline Girardi complete the defensive part of the team.

At midfield with Giglio is senior Stephanie Rivera, who had a fantastic camp and preseason. Rivera is due for a great season at the right midfield position. Diana Paravatos and Andrea Cardozo start at the attacking midfield position and have been extremely productive. Stephanie Zdazenski is also back for her second year at the left midfield position.

The forward line is made up of Elena Marino, speedy Sarah Nolan and leading scorer Medina Mulic.

On Sept. 10 at Brennan Field, CK beat St. Edmund’s Prep from Brooklyn 11-1 (five goals scored by Mulic, two each from Drogsler and Paravatos, and one apiece from Rivera and Cardozo).

On Sept. 12 at College Point, CK beat St. Agnes 12-0, with five goals by Nolan, three from Giglio, two by Mulic and one each by Paravatos and Rivera.

Finally, on Sept. 14 at Brennan Field, CK beat rivals Mary Louis Academy 1-0 on a goal by Diana Paravatos.
