Say He Torched Ed. Facility In Glendale

Moments after flames scorched a Glendale day care center and school for students with special needs last Saturday night, Sept. 22, a neighborhood man was busted by police for allegedly setting the blaze intentionally, according to police.

The suspect was identified by law enforcement sources as 44-year-old Thomas Ackerman of Glendale, whose place of residence was not disclosed by authorities.

Reportedly, Ackerman ignited a one-alarm fire at the Little Wonder 8 School located at 88-66 Myrtle Ave. at around 11:45 p.m. Saturday night. According to information provided by the Queens District Attorney’s office, the school serves as a day care center and educates autistic students.

The motive as to why the fire was set remains unknown and under investigation, police stated.

Law enforcement sources said an eyewitness noticed smoke emanating from the basement of the school. When the eyewitness went to check,
