Enjoy Radio Show at Martin Luther

School To Host Tests & Craft Fair

A radio show re-creation, entrance exams and a Christmans craft and vendor fair are among some of the events Martin Luther School (MLS) will hold at their Maspeth campus in the weeks ahead, it was announced.

This weekend, MLS’ Fine Arts Department, Drama Club and International Thespian Troupe 980 will be performing Suspense & Suspicion: An Evening of Radio Plays, a series of one-act radio shows from the 1930s and 40s.

Using their acting and vocal talents, the MLS Drama team will give the audience a glimpse into the recording studio as they “broadcast” these thrilling, fast-paced stories.

Performances will take place on Friday, Oct. 26 and Saturday, Oct. 27th at 7:30 p.m., and a matinee will be held on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 3 p.m. Tickets for each performance are $5 each and are available at the door.

Prior to the performance on Friday, the Drama Club will host a spaghetti dinner. This dinner and a show package includes a ticket to the play. Reservations are required. Call 1-718-894-4000, ext. 133 for more information.

The school will also administer its Academic Excellence Scholarship and Entrance Exam to eighth- and ninth-graders on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 8:30 a.m. A parent’s information meeting will be held during the exam, and tours of the facilities will be given. Representatives from the school’s Finance Department will also be present to assist parents in completing Financial Aid requests.

The top three scorers on the exam will receive a half-tuition scholarship; the next top scorers will receive partial renewable scholarships. Results of the exam will be announced in February at the school’s annual scholarship dinner.

In order to take the exam, students must first apply to the school. For more information or to receive an admissions package, contact the Admissions Secretary at the school office at 1-718-894-4000.

Finally, Martin Luther School will host its annual Christmas Craft & Vendor Fair on Thursday, Nov. 29 from 4 to 8 p.m.

In addition to hand-made crafts, jewelry and unique gift items, vendors scheduled to appear include Tastefully Simple, Avon, Pampered Chef, Park Lane Jewels and more. The Maspeth Thrift Shop will also have an assortment of new clothes and items available for purchase.

Vendors interested in participating in the fair are invited to call 1-718- 894-4000 to request an application.
