The three firefighters who were killed while fighting a massive fire in Astoria on Fathers’ Day 2001 were honored with the unveiling of a plaque at the scene of the blaze last Tuesday, Oct. 9. Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano joined family members and friends of Firefighter John J. Downing of Ladder Co. 163 and Firefighters Brian D. Fahey and Harry S. Ford of Rescue 4 to pay tribute to the three firemen who were killed in the blaze at a hardware store at 14-01 Astoria Blvd. on June 17, 2001. Chief of Department Edward Kilduff and FDNY Chaplain Msgr. John Delendic, along with firefighters from across Queens, also participated in the memorial ceremony.
