Hundreds of students and residents joined local elected officials for a “family literacy walk” through Long Island City on Oct. 12 in support of the Queens Borough Public Library’s Family Literacy Program at the Ravenswood branch. As noted, participants walked from Rainey Park along Vernon Boulevard to Socrates Sculpture Park, where a special program was held. Among those who participated in the event were City Council Member Jimmy Van Bramer, Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan and State Sen. Michael Gianaris.
