Plans for the cleanup of a site on the Brooklyn/Queens border in Ridgewood contaminated with radiation will be a focus of Community Board 5′s next meeting scheduled to take place on Wednesday night, Nov. 14, in Middle Village.
As announced by District Manager Gary Giordano, the session will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of Christ the King Regional High School, located at 68-02 Metropolitan Ave.
The agenda includes a presentation by representatives of the Environmental Protection Agency regarding plans to clean radioactive contamination at 1127-1129 Irving Ave., the site of the former Wolff-Alport Chemical Corporation.
According to Giordano, there is thorium contamination at the site related to Wolff-Alport’s operations. From information he has received, the contamination reportedly spread to adjacent properties.
Wednesday’s session also includes the public forum, a review of liquor license applications and demolition notices, the chairperson’s report and reports by committees.
Giordano also advised that the session may be cancelled should the gasoline shortage continue.
