First responders rushed to a Long island City intersection early last Saturday morning, Dec. 29, 2012, to rescue a man who became trapped inside his sedan after the vehicle reportedly collided with a truck. Fire Department sources said the accident occurred at around 1:40 a.m. in the vicinity of 30th Street and Review Avenue. Members of Engine companies 258 and 259, Ladder companies 115 and 128, Rescue 4, Battalion 45, the 108th Precinct, NYPD Emergency Services Unit 10 and EMS units responded to the scene. Using the Hurst tool-powerful clippers commonly known as the “jaws of life”-rescuers were able to pry apart the damaged car and free the trapped driver. The victim was brought to Elmhurst Hospital Center for injuries which were not life-threatening. The driver of the truck was reportedly uninjured.
