CONCETTA WOLF of Selden, N.Y., formerly of Ridgewood, died on Thursday, March 7, at the age of 89. She was the wife of the late Charles, loving mother of George and Margaret Wolf, Joanne and Richard Renz and the late Charles Wolf, mother-in-law of Joan Wolf, cherished grandmother of James, George Jr., Theresa, Darlene, Keith, Richard and Dawn and fond great-grandmother of Laila and Adam. A wake was held at O.B. Davis Funeral Homes, 4839 Nesconset Hwy., Port Jefferson Station, followed by services at graveside at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton.

ALFRED BUEHLER was born in New York City and moved to Ridgewood, Queens, when very young. Al attended P.S. 71 and P.S. 93; after graduating from Grover Cleveland High School, he married fellow GCHS alum Anne Louise Beck, and the couple started their family soon after.A l spent 15 years in the rapidlygrowing travel and airfreight industry at Trans World Airlines, where he was active in the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union (IAMAW). While with TWA, he started his college studies at St. John’s University, where he majored in biology and hoped to work in veterinary medicine. In 1969, Al changed careers andjoined the Fire Department of New York City. He received his EMT certification and his Bachelor of Science in biology, and then enrolled in the Hunter College–Bellevue School of Nursing program. After Al earned his second degree—a B.S. in Nursing— he began part-time work at Bellevue. Al retired from the Fire Department of New York in 1995 after 25 years of service. When Anne retired from teaching at P.S. 68, the couple built a retirement home and moved to Lord’s Valley, Pa. in 1997. Al suffered a hemorrhagic stroke while on a trip to Washington, DC in 2009, and was confined to a wheelchair after that. Surrounded by his family, he died on Thursday, February 28. Al is survived by his wife, Anne Buehler of Lord’s Valley, Pa., his daughter, Maggie Buehler of New York, N.Y., his son, Steven Buehler of Belmont, Ca., his daughter, Diana Mischler of Glendale, N.Y., and his brother, Richard Buehler of Bowie, Md.

JEANNE F. MORAN of Woodside died on Saturday, February 9, at the age of 83 in Connecticut, where she had resided with her sister Gloria Thorn since her illness. She was the daughter of the late John and Jessie van Elk and was predeceased by her husband Robert Moran. Jeanne was a very active member of the Maspeth United Methodist Church and directed playgroups there for 30 years. She is survived by her sister Gloria Thorn, nephew Wesley Thorn, niece Elaine Thorn and grandson Jonathan Gadzini. A Memorial Service will be held this Sunday, March 17, at 4 p.m. at Glendale/Maspeth United Methodist Church, 66-14 Central Ave., Glendale.

MARGARET MECHLER of Levittown, formerly of Glendale, died on Sunday, March 10, at the age of 93. She was the wife of the late Valentine, loving mother of Barbara Oberheim, cherished grandmother of Brian, Nicole and Krista and fond great-grandmother of Andreas, Nicholas, Annaliese, Kiersten and Markus. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Charles J. O’Shea Funeral Home, 603 Wantagh Ave., Wantagh.

JEANNIE PAPAVERA died on Saturday, March 9, at the age of 76. She was the wife of the late Joseph G. Papavera, loving mother of Joseph A. Papavera, cherished grandmother of Jacquelyn and Jessica and dear sister of John Diakow an Joseph Diakow. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered today, Thursday, March 14, at 9:45 a.m. at St. Cecilia’s Church, Greenpoint, followed by interment at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, L.I., under the direction of Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27 Grand Ave., Maspeth.

JENNIE LORD died on Monday, March 4, at the age of 101. She was the wife of the late Thomas Lord, loving mother of Helen Vaccaro, Eleanor Pinamonti and Dorothy Daly and mother-in-law of Frank, Joseph and the late Renato. She was also the cherished grandmother of 10 grandchildren and great-grandmother of 19 great-grandchildren. MARIE BRECK died on Saturday, March 9, at the age of 79. She was the beloved wife of Anthony Breck, mother of the late James Breck Sr. and cherished grandmother of James and Krisja. HENRY W. KERN of Ridgewood died on Tuesday, March 5, at the age of 85. A U.S. Navy veteran who served during World War II, he was the husband of the late Lucille, devoted father of John, Bob and the late Donald, father-in-law of Pat and Tricia, loving grandfather of Jamie, Danny, Jessica and the late Lori and proud great-grandfather of Rory. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Ridgewood, followed by interment at Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, L.I., under the direction of Hess-Miller Funeral Home, 64-19 Metropolitan Ave., Middle Village.

JESUS M. VICENTE died on Friday, March 8, at the age of 87. He was the beloved husband of Nelly Vicente, loving father of Fred A. Vicente and Elizabeth T. She was the beloved mother of Milanka Savanovic and the late Milan Bankovic, cherished grandmother of Milan, Nikola, Milosav, Stevo, Nada, Jelena and Nenad and dear sister of Gorica Cupric and the late Rade Cupric. She is also survived by seven greatgrandchildren. KARL-HEINZ HARTMANN of Maspeth died on Monday, March 11, at the age of 84. A native of Germany, he was the husband of the late Luise Hartmann, devoted father of Doris Hartmann-Kelly and father in law of Martin J. Kelly III. He is also survived by grandchildren Ryan and Erica. A private cremation was held at Fresh Pond Crematory, Middle Village, under the direction of Village Chapels, 67-67 Eliot Ave., Middle Village.

VALENTIN CLOBANU of Ridgewood died on Saturday, March 9, at the age of 87. A native of Chisinou, Romania, he was the beloved husband of Josefina and devoted father of Mihalia McRae. He is also survived by one grandchild. Services were offered at the Descent of the Holy Spirit Romanian Orthodox Church, Ridgewood, by Rev. JOHN WELTMANN of Glendale died on Saturday, March 9, at the age of 91. A native of Torschau, Yugoslavia, he was the husband of the late Margareta and devoted father of Helga Kreter and Adam Kreter. GRACE LOHMAN of Ridgewood died on Wednesday, March 6, at the age of 79. A native of Ridgewood, she was the wife of the late Milton.
