Specialists from the Fire Department’s Haz-Mat Unit 1 were called to an Elmhurst apartment last Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 27, after a resident reportedly used a chemical agent in an apparent attempt to kill bedbugs in her home. Firefighters and officers from the 110th Precinct were called to a fourth-floor apartment house on Woodside Avenue near Broadway at around 3 p.m. Sources said that an elderly female resident had spread boric acid around her apartment, creating a toxic mess. There were no serious injuries reported. Firefighters are shown cleaning off boots and equipment after walking through the premises.
