Woman Kills Her Ex In Rich. Hill

An apparent quarrel at a Richmond Hill home last Tuesday night, Apr. 16, ended in bloodshed when a 63-year-old woman fatally knifed her former boyfriend, police said.

Shirley Forbes, 63, of 112th Street was booked by the 102nd Precinct Detective Squad on manslaughter charges the following day for causing the death of Lee Burrison, 55, who also lived at the residence.

Law enforcement sources said the stabbing occurred at around 10:44 p.m. last Tuesday at the home on 112th Street near Jamaica Avenue, where Burrison and Forbes became embroiled in an argument inside Forbes’ apartment.

According to Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown, Burrison secured last November an order of protection valid through 2014 barring Forbes from “assaulting, harassing or committing any other criminal offenses” against him.

The argument last Tuesday turned violent when Forbes reportedly stabbed Burrison in the upper left chest.

Officers from the 102nd Precinct and EMS units rushed to the location. Burrison was taken by paramedics to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police took Forbes into custody at the scene and, following questioning by detectives, she was charged last Wednesday, Apr. 17, with first-degree manslaughter, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and aggrafamily vated criminal contempt.

“Violence such as that which is allege to have occurred in this case cannot be tolerated,” Brown said in a press release last Thursday, Apr. 18. “As a result, [Forbes] faces serious consequences for her alleged actions.”

Court records indicated that Forbes was arraigned last Thursday in Queens Criminal Court before Judge Gene Lopez, who ordered her kept in custody without bail. Her next court appearance is scheduled to take place on May 2.

If convicted, Forbes faces up to 25 years behind bars.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Kristin J. Papadopoulos of the D.A.’s Homicide Investigations Bureau, which is supervised by Assistant District Attorneys Peter T. Reese, bureau chief, and Peter J. McCormack III and Richard B. Schaeffer, deputy bureau chiefs.
