a Century of Service to Bushwick

Past and present firefighters joined Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano and other ranking Fire Department officials to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the foundation of Engine Co. 277 at the company’s Bushwick headquarters last Thursday, May 9. Colloquially known as the “House of Pain,” Engine 277 was front and center for the highs and lows of Bushwick, from battling the fiery downturn of the 1970s to witnessing the community’s comeback nearly four decades later. As shown above, Cassano, FDNY Chief of Department Edward Kilduff and others look on as a plaque marking the company’s centennial is blessed.
