Spire installed atop One World Trade bringing building to full 1,776 feet

One World Trade Center reached its full, symbolic 1,776 feet this morning with the permanent installation of the building’s spire.

The final pieces of the spire were raised to the top of the Lower Manhattan structure last week, but were not attached until today.

One World Trade building is now the tallest in the Western Hemisphere and third tallest in the world, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

On April 30, 2012, it surpassed the Empire State Building to become tallest one in the city.

The first section of One World Trade Center’s 408-foot spire was installed in December.

The spire will serve as a state-of-the-art broadcast facility.
