A group of Sunnyside and Woodside artists is holding its 6th annual arts fair this Sunday.
The event, organized by SunnysideArtists.org, will take place at the Queen of Angels parish hall–which is located on the corner of 44th Street and Skillman Avenue. The event–officially called the Queen of Angels Art Fair VI — has taken place every June since 2007.
About 35 artists are expected to exhibit their work at this year’s event, where they will set up tables to display and sell their art between 1 pm and 5 pm.
There will be no entrance fee.
Artists include regulars, such as Mihai Stancescu, offering oil tempera on board; Ann Cofta, with whimsical tiny beaded sculptures; and Emily Dunne, showcasing whimsical collages made of old photographs and ephemera.
Simon Donikian, an internationally-known painter, will share a table with his wife, Nuty, showing her work for the first time. A new crop of artists is also going to be exhibiting, including Tristian Golk, and photographer James Wilson.
Local businesses are also supporting the art fair, with Lowery Liquors donating a free glass of wine to anyone who makes a purchase. Other big donors are TD Bank, Turkish Cultural Center, Pronto Car Service and Queen of Angels church.
Visitors can buy lunch for $5 at the event, where there will be food served by Bliss 46 Bistro, Salt & Fat, DeMole, the Sugar Room and Nodus.
Separately, SunnysideArtists.org is also displaying 35 pieces of art at Claret Wine Bar through July 9.
The 35 pieces were selected through a “blind jury” process by 93 artists who competed to have their works shown. The competing artists’ voted on each piece without knowing who created it.
Many of the works that are being displayed at Claret are available for sale.
