A 50-year-old man was awaiting arraignment Wednesday on charges that he stabbed his wife to death inside their Ozone Park home early Friday, police and a spokeswoman for the Queens district attorney’s office said.

Adalberto Sanchez had not been arraigned because he was receiving medical treatment at Jamaica Hospital for a stab wound to the abdomen, according the NYPD and the DA’s office.

Authorities responded to the two-story home where Adalberto Sanchez lived with his wife Josefa Sanchez on 80th Street at about 3 a.m. Friday, and after getting inside a locked bedroom, officers found a 41-year-old woman, who had stab wounds to her upper torso, the NYPD said. Cops then found Adalberto Sanchez, who was allegedly holding a knife in his hand, in the next room, police said.

After Adalberto Sanchez was taken into custody, he was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, cops said. Josefa Sanchez was taken to the same hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Adalberto Sanchez was charged with second-degree murder, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal possession of a weapon, the NYPD said. The Associated Press reported that the couple’s three children fled the scene of the stabbing.

A knife was recovered and an investigation into the stabbing was ongoing, authorities said.
