ELMHURST — Police were looking for a man they say impersonated a cop in order to dupe dozens of people across the city, including two in Queens.
Investigators said the suspect, described only as a black man, calls his elderly victims on the phone claiming to be a police officer involved in an investigation concerning their bank accounts.
He tells them he needs money from their accounts to assist the investigation and then meets them in person to collect, police said.
The NYPD believes he has struck 24 times since June 2011, including conning octogenarians in the borough’s 105th and 110th precincts earlier this year.
Those with information should contact NYPD’s Crimestoppers by calling 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), visiting its website at nypdcrimestoppers.com or texting 274637 (CRIMES) and entering TIP577.
