With the revamp of a Glendale shopping center well under way, hopes of bringing a new and improved retail experience for residents are high.

Marketing manager Dawn Simon said the Shops at Atlas Park need “new energy and excitement.”

Shoppers previously said the selection of stores at the center was subpar, but Macerich, which owns the facility, aims to change that this summer.

“New retailers and a new gathering place are just the start of the great benefits and offerings that the Shops at Atlas Park will provide,” Simon said. “Our vision and plans for the center are continuing to come to life.”

Charlotte Russe and Forever 21, two popular national brands, will open in the Shops this summer. The Center Green, a gathering area within the shopping center, is currently under construction. It is designed to host community events and live performances.

“Bringing the community together and hosting these events will create a sense of space to not only shop and dine but to be entertained,” Simon said.

She added the Center Green was also created with families in mind.

Macerich is researching new offers and concepts for shoppers, but could not share specifics as to what additions, if any, will be made to the shopping and dining mix. Macerich said its leasing team is working to bring in new stores and restaurants.

The Shops at Atlas Park is in a prime location in Glendale, right near Cooper Avenue and 80th Street. Macerich hopes to make it “much more than a shopping center,” Simon said.
