Nabbed Shopping After Bank Heist

A Staten Island man made one stop before his arrest on Tuesday, Jan. 14, for allegedly robbing a Maspeth bank: He went jewelry shopping.

Jimmie Knight ,56, was arrested and charged with robbery, menacing and criminal possession of stolen property after he allegedly robbed the Chase Bank at 66-02 Grand Ave.

According to law enforcement officials, Knight allegedly entered the bank at around 3:15, pantomiming a gun beneath his fur coat and demanding cash.

The teller gave him $2,000 in cash, and Knight allegedly fled the scene, it was noted.

According to police, he then proceeded to a nearby jewelry store and purchased more than $1,100 in jewelry.

He left the store and continued west on Grand Avenue, and minutes later, he was arrested during a canvas of the area, police stated.

Officers found about $1,000 cash on Knight at the time of his arrest, reports stated.

According to the New York Post, Roy Renna, a freelance photographer and member of the 104th Precinct Civilian Observation Patrol, tipped cops off to the perp’s location and made a positive ID.
