Kick Strong At Cosmopolitan Indoor Competition
Two Blau Weiss Gottschee (BWG) teams scored wins in the Cosmopolitan Junior Soccer League Tournament last week. Both the U-11 and U-8 Blue squads captured tourney titles.
The U11 team defeated Brooklyn Athletics 6-4 in the final, and finished the tournament with a 4-1 record.
The U8 team defeated Islas Malvinas 4-3 in their final game to take first place. Previously they had beaten Latin Stars 6-0, SC Gora Thor 6-1 and N.Y. Stars 6-2. The squad was undefeated in the tournament.
BWG was begun in 1951 by Austrian immigrants that settled in Glendale and Ridgewood.
Today the league features youth teams for boys and girls, and an intramural division for kids ages four through nine.
