Queens Botanical Garden is gearing up for spring with a full program of events throughout the month of March, from gardening and arts workshops to family and community events.

General admission to the Garden is free through the end of March. The programs include the following:

Gardening Workshop: Start Your Summer Veggies Indoors, Sunday, Mar. 8, noon to 1:30 p.m. ($6 fee; advance registration and payment required). Grow your green thumb at Queens Botanical Garden. Join Fred Gerber, director of education emeritus, for an introductory workshop on starting your summer vegetables indoors. Contact education@queensbotanical.org or call 1-718-886-3800, Ext. 230.

HSBC Children’s Garden Family Day, Saturday, Mar. 15, 2 to 4 p.m., admission free. Get a taste of the HSBC Children’s Garden program as we plant seeds while learning about gardening and the enviroment. Plus, have a chance to register early for the Spring Session starting Apr. 5.

Nature Photography Workshops. Wildlife photography with Shari Romar on Saturday, Mar. 22, 1 to 3:30 p.m.; flower and macro photography with H. David Stein on Saturday, Mar. 29, 1 to 3:30 p.m. (fee: $10/one workshop; $18/both workshops; advance registration and payment required; limited to 12 participants). Learn how to take better nature photos with QBG as your backdrop. Photographers Shari Romar and H. David Stein will offer a slide show of examples and advice on light and composition. Workshops include approximately 45 minutes of outdoor photography.

Beginning photographers are welcome. Participants must bring their own camera.

MARCH for the Earth, Sunday, Mar. 23, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (weather permitting), admission free. Celebrate the vernal equinox- historical Earth Day-by joining us and other community groups for a day of volunteering and unity at the garden, followed by a festive march to the Flushing Meadows Corona Park Unisphere. Individuals and groups are welcome to volunteer.

Sundial Craft Workshop, Sunday, Mar. 23, starting at 1 p.m. (while supplies last), admission free. Make your own sundial pendant from recycled materials.

Spring Lawn Care Workshop by the NYC Compost Project, hosted by Queens Botanical Garden, Sunday, Mar. 24, 1 to 4 p.m. ($5 per person, register by calling 1-718-539-5296). Spring is a critical time for lawn care. Join the garden’s Patty Kleinberg, lawn care expert extraordinaire, for this important introduction to natural lawn care. Learn how to maintain a healthy lawn without the use of artificial fertilizers and pesticides. The last hour of the workshop is a hands-on demonstration.
