The 2-year-old boy who was hit by a car on an Auburndale street Monday afternoon is expected to make a full recovery, the principal of his brother’s school said.
Police said the boy was struck by a blue 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander around 2:30 p.m. after he ran out into the road in front of a house on 196th Street, just north of Northern Boulevard. He was taken to Long Island Jewish Hospital with what the NYPD and witnesses described as serious head injuries and was in critical condition as of Monday evening.
Athena Kromidas, principal of William Spyropoulos Greek-American School at 43-15 196th St., said the 2-year-old is the brother of a kindergarten student at the day school, which was just letting out around the time of the accident. Kromidas said she has spoken with the boy’s mother since the accident occurred and was told the toddler is expected to recover.
“He’s doing well” she said. “He is going to stay in the hospital another couple of days, but everything is fine.”
A spokesman for the NYPD said Tuesday that the Collision Investigation Squad was still handling the details of the incident and could not say yet whether the driver of the Mitsubishi was expected to be ticketed or charged.
