Cops shot and killed an elderly man who they believe fatally shot his daughter inside an Astoria home Saturday, police said.
Officers arrived at the 38th Street residence about 11:15 a.m. in response to a 9-1-1 call of a family dispute involving a gun, officials said. According to a police source, the caller said he had shot his daughter and a dog.
Two cops were confronted by a man, identified by police as 86-year-old Jack Calvello, who was holding a shotgun. The officers told Calvello to drop his weapon, police said. He then allegedly turned in the direction of the cops, and one of the officers shot him once in the torso.
Calvello was taken to Mt. Sinai Queens, where he was pronounced dead.
His 65-year-old daughter, identified as Carolann Matyka, was found in the kitchen with a gunshot wound to the head and taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center, cops said. She was pronounced dead about 3:45 p.m.
A dog was also found inside the home with a neck injury and it was removed by the ASPCA for treatment, police said.
A 12-gauge shotgun was recovered at the scene and the investigation continues, according to the NYPD.
