Pulls Out Victory Over Rosario Construction

Last Saturday, Apr. 19, Haller and Haller of the Ridgewood Glendale Middle Village Maspeth (RGMVM) minor division improved its record to 4-0 with a tough 8-5 win over Rosario Construction who was also undefeated entering the contest.

Joseph LaBarbara got the call to start for Haller and pitched 2 2/3 solid innings, allowing four runs on three hits while striking out seven. Ryan Regan came in to pitch the remaining 2 1/3 innings in a time shortened game.

Regan left Rosario Construction with the bases loaded in the third, and allowed only one run on one hit through his 2 1/3 innings. He struck out the side in the bottom of the fifth, five of the last six batters he faced and finished with six strikeouts total.

On offense Joe Pennolino started the game with a walk and came around to score on James Szala’s fielder’s choice hit back to the box. LaBarbara and Jack Cayli followed with singles, but were left stranded as Rosario’s first baseman made a fine play off the bat of Regan.

In the second, Adam Alava led off with an infield single, followed by a Nicholas Macio walk. After consecutive strikeouts, Pennolino singled in a run andAidin Dzaferovic plated two more runs with a single.

In the top of the third, with two outs and no one on base, Ryan Regan singled and then stole second, third and home to give Haller a 5-3 lead. After Rosario Construction closed the gap by adding a run in the bottom of the frame, Haller added three runs in the top of the fourth.

In the fourth, Macio lead off with his second walk of the game. He was moved along the bases by a fielder’s choice off the bat of Nicholas Audelo.

After Macio, Pennolino and Dzaferovic crossed the plate, Szala was caught at home when he attempted to stretch the bases after LaBarbara added his second hit of the game.

Rosario Construction added a single run in the bottom of the fourth, to bring the score to 8-5. Both teams went quietly in the fifth and Haller earned its fourth win, 8-5. Haller and Haller will face off with D&A Kitchens in their next game.
