Bushwick Man Fatally Shot Near Park
Police are searching for the suspect who gunned down a man while walking on a Bushwick block Sunday afternoon, Apr. 6, it was reported.
Law enforcement sources identified the victim as 29-year-old Ivan Martinez of Troutman Street.
According to authorities, Martinez was fatally shot in front of a location on Suydam Street near Knickerbocker Avenue-close to Maria Hernandez Park-at about 5:55 p.m. Sunday.
Moments before the shooting, sources familiar with the investigation stated, Martinez and the unidentified male perpetrator were observed walking along Suydam Street.
Upon stopping in front of a residence, authorities said, the gunman opened fire, shooting Martinez multiple times. The suspect then fled from the scene in an unkown direction.
Officers from the 83rd Precinct and EMS units rushed to the location after receiving a 911 call about the shooting. Paramedics pronounced Martinez dead at the scene.
Various police units canvassed the surrounding area for evidence and possible suspects. Despite their efforts, it was noted, no immediate arrests were made.
The case was presented to the 83rd Precinct Detective Squad for further investigation, police said.
