Woodhaven Group To Hand Out Honors
The Greater Woodhaven Development Corporation (GWDC) will honor community leaders at its 35th anniversary dinner/dance next Friday night, June 6.
Themed “Spring is Here!”, the gala will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Woodhaven Manor Caterers, located at 96-01 Jamaica Ave. As announced by GWDC Executive Director Maria Thomson, the program includes live music and a buffet; ladies are encouraged to wear warm spring colors for the occasion.
During the event, the GWDC will present its Man of the Year award to Matthew Xenakis, president of the Woodhaven Business Improvement District; Rep. Nydia Velázquez will receive the GWDC’s Woman of the Year award.
Deputy Inspector Henry Sautner, commanding officer of the 102nd Precinct, will also be presented with the GWDC’s “Award of Distinction,” while George Smith will be recognized with the “Honorary Woodhavenite Award.”
Finally, State Sen. Joseph Addabbo and Assemblyman Mike Miller will be presented with the GWDC’s Awards of Appreciation.
