Resurrection Ascension Schools’ Robotics team, the RA Tech Titans, took first place in the Project Award for Innovative Solutions at this year’s Robotics Competition. The Rego Park school competed with 73 other teams from throughout the five boroughs at the Jacob Javits Convention Center this past April. This year’s theme was “Nature’s Fury.” The team presented a project focusing on placing infrared sensors on airplanes that would allow them to detect the ash that remains after a volcano eruption, thus preventing plane crashes. They also demonstrated their ability to complete missions with their robot, and discussed the core values of teamwork and professionalism. Coached by former Tech Titan Michael Mesa, the team members pictured are: Oscar Garcia, James Giunta, Johan Larsen, Sven Larsen, Roseanne Torres, Joshua Alvarez, Danny Djurasevic, Isabella Ferrer, Kayla Kulik, Alana McKeon, Christian Mendoza, Kevin Ozbay, David Peters Jr., Ryan Tapalaga and Zoe Ursu.
