Woodhaven residents showed their appreciation to local veterans by hosting a barbecue in their honor last Saturday, June 14, at the American Legion Post 118 on 92nd Street. The Woodhaven Residents’ Block Association (WRBA) sponsored the free feast for veterans which included burgers, hot dogs and salads. Among the veterans recognized at the event (shown in left photo) was Albert Matakonis (seated, with cane), 96, who served in the 101st Airborne Division during World War II. Pictured in the right photo with WRBA and American Legion members are Assemblyman Mike Miller (fourth from left) and WRBA President Martin Colberg (fourth from right).
