Forest Park Merry-Go-Round Event To Fight Alzheimer’s
Take the family on a spin around the Forest Park Carousel next Friday night, Aug. 22, during an “evening ride” sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association New York Chapter.
As announced, the event-hosted by New York Carousel Entertainment, the ride’s operator- takes place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the historic merry-go-round located off the intersection of Forest Park Drive and Woodhaven Boulevard.
For a $10 admission, each guest will get unlimited rides on the carousel, which last year was designated a New York City landmark. Children will also get a chance to enjoy face painting, music and entertainment.
Individual rides will also be available for a $3 charge.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association in its ongoing effort to research the degenerative neurological disease, treat those afflicted with it and support their caregivers.
The evening ride precedes the Alzheimer’s Association’s “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” scheduled to take place on Sunday morning, Sept. 28, at 10:30 a.m. at Flushing Meadows- Corona Park. The two-mile walk, which begins at the corner of 111th Street and 56th Avenue, is expected to generate $125,000 for the organization.
Those interested in lacing up their sneakers and raising funds at the walk are encouraged to register at www.alznyc.org/queenswalk or call 1-800-272-3900. Incentive prizes are available for walkers who raise various levels of money.
“Alzheimer’s is a devastating disease that does not discriminate,” said Lou-Ellen Barkan, president and CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association. “Queens is such a large and diverse borough and the chapter serves so many families that make up this wonderful part of our city. I encourage Queens residents to join us at our walk and take steps as one community to end this heartbreaking disease.”
