Police investigating six shootings across boro: NYPD

By Sarina Trangle

Police had not made any arrests at midweek in shootings last weekend that sent four men scrambling inside an East Elmhurst home, a woman running for cover along an Edgemere street and a man wounded outside a South Richmond Hill lounge this weekend, the NPYD said.

The Police Department said they were first called to East Elmhurst at 9:50 p.m. Friday, where two men wearing black hooded sweatshirts and bandanas over their faces greeted those gathered on a stoop and released a barrage of bullets.

Two brothers and two friends were hit as they ran toward a home on 106th Street near Northern Boulevard, according to police and a relative.

Pedro Fernandez, whose two sons were injured, said his children and their companions were expected to recover.

“They were outside drinking a couple of beers,” Fernandez said, when two men wearing hooded sweatshirts and cloth obstructing their faces approached. “One said to my son, ‘What’s up?’ and that was it. They started shooting.”

Police said a 25-year-old man was hit in the back and a bullet grazed his head, a 24-year-old was shot in the right eye, a 30-year-old was struck in the back and a bullet nicked his head, and a 24-year-old’s arm was brushed by a bullet.

All were taken to Elmhurst Hospital, according to police.

The NYPD said descriptions of the suspects were sketchy due to their attire.

Police said three of the four victims had been arrested on marijuana possession or sales charges in the past. But the NYPD had not yet established a motive or make any arrests.

Still Fernandez said he had no idea why his family was targeted.

“I have been here five years, never has nothing like this happened before. I’m scared to go back to the house,” he said, noting that his family may need to stay in a shelter or rely on relatives before saving up for a new home. “I have to move.”

Officers were also investigating shots fired in Rockaway Friday night. Police said a bullet brushed across a 24-year-old woman’s head as she walked along Beach 54th Street at 10:46 p.m.

The NYPD said the woman heard gunfire, began running and then noticed her head was bleeding.

Police said she was brought to Jamaica Hospital with minor injuries.

No arrests had been made, according to the NYPD.

And early Saturday morning police were called to a South Richmond Hill lounge on Liberty Avenue near 123rd Street, where the NYPD said a 28-year-old was shot in the torso at about 3:55 a.m. Saturday.

Cops said two groups got into a dispute inside the club, some were kicked out and a crowd began to gather in front of the venue.

A man then drove up and fired at the victim, according to police.

Officers said it was not clear if he was the intended victim.

The 28-year-old was brought to Jamaica Hospital in critical but stable condition, the NYPD said.

Police said the suspect, a white male, drove west on Liberty Avenue.

The NYPD said it had not made any arrests.
