The best bocce teams from each borough competed head-to-head in the final rounds of NYC Parks’ Citywide Bocce Tournament at Juniper Valley Park in Middle Village last Saturday, Sept. 20. In the final round of play, the Manhattan team defeated Queens’ best and awards were presented to the winning team. Preliminary tournaments were held in each borough earlier this month, where new and experienced bocce players faced off. The top two teams, Queens and Manhattan were composed of four players each. The games were played on the new bocce courts in Juniper Valley Park, which recently reopened after an $850,000 renovation funded by City Council Member Elizabeth Crowley. The courts feature new shade structures, seating areas and fencing. The second place team representing Queens is pictured holding their runner-up trophies.
