Cops shoot and kill ax-wielding man in downtown Jamaica:NYPD

Police officers fatally shot a man who attacked them with a hatchet in a commercial strip in downtown Jamaica about 2 p.m. Thursday, said the NYPD.

The incident occurred on Jamaica Avenue and 160th Street, according to a police spokesman. He said two cops were injured during the attack and taken to Jamaica Hospital.

Police fired at the unidentified man, who died at the scene, said the spokesman.

“Two police officers were struck with an ax,” said the NYPD spokesman.

One of the police officers was struck in the head by the hatchet-wielding man.

A by-standard was struck by a bullet in the back. She was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.

Police are investigating the incident.
