Cameras Help Cops Nab Alleged Maspeth Burglar

Teenager Pinched For Four Recent Break-Ins

A Maspeth teenager found himself in handcuffs last week for allegedly carrying out four burglary attempts around the neighborhood, law enforcement sources said.

Police identified him as 17- year-old Joshua Guevara of 65th Place, who was arraigned last Thursday, Jan. 11, in Queens Criminal Court before Judge Suzanne Melendez on charges of third-degree burglary, seconddegree attempted burglary, fourth-degree grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal trespass.

Several of the incidents were reportedly caught on tape, authorities noted.

According to information provided by the Queens District Attorney’s office, the first breakin attempt occurred between 3 and 5 p.m. on Dec. 5 at a home on 63rd Street near Maurice Avenue.

Reportedly, Guevara- accompanied by several unidentified individuals-entered the location and removed a wallet and $120 in cash. Police said they also stole several checkbooks, a portable CD player, a laptop computer, sets of car and house keys and a purse.

The other three burglary attempts occurred between 9 p.m. last Monday, Dec. 8 and early the following morning, authorities noted.

Police said Guevara allegedly broke into a home on 65th Place near 53rd Avenue and removed the keys to a Honda Accord parked nearby. Seconds later, it was reported, he exited the home and opened the vehicle’s trunk, removing bags of Christmas presents left inside.

Law enforcement sources said Guevara allegedly stole a bike and power tools from the rear of a home on 55th Avenue near 64th Street and was observed attempting to break into a neighboring residence.

Officers from the 104th Precinct responded to all of the incidents. Based on information obtained during the investigation, P.O. Filip Glowa arrested Guevara following questioning last Wednesday, Dec. 10.

During the arraignment hearing last Thursday, Judge Suzanne Melendez ordered Guevara held on $25,000 bail and to return to court on Dec. 29.
