Members of the 108th Precinct Community Council welcomed the precinct’s new commander, bid farewell to its former leader and honored its Cop of the Month during the council’s meeting last Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Sunnyside Community Services. As noted, Capt. John Travaglia-formerly the executive officer at the 114th and 104th precincts-took the helm last month for Deputy Inspector Brian Hennessy, who was reassigned to command the 115th Precinct. In the top photo, Hennessy came by to receive an award from Precinct Council President Diane Ballek for his years of service to the 108th Precinct. In the bottom photo, Travaglia helped Ballek present the Cop of the Month award to P.O. Jesse Wenk, who was recognized for recently arresting a suspected vehicle tire-andrim thief in Sunnyside. The officer received a plaque donated by the Times Newsweekly for his efforts. Among those pictured at the award presentations were Lt. Jon Cermeli, 108th Precinct special operations coordinator, and Precinct Council members Johanna Carmona, Frank Corrado, Patricia Dorfman, Don McCallian and Gertrude McDonald.
