City Councilman Paul Vallone (D-Bayside) and the nonprofit Doe Fund announced additional street cleaning routes in Whitestone last week.
The new routes in Whitestone include 14th Avenue from 149th to Clintonville streets, 150th Street between the Cross Island Service Road and 12th Avenue and Clintonville Street between 14th Road and 12th Road.
The cleanup along the new routes has already started and will continue through July 1, Vallone said.
“Clean sidewalks and litter-free streets will go a long way towards beautifying and revitalizing the Whitestone Village,” he said in a statement. “I’m happy to have already received many phone calls to my office proving that the Doe Fund’s work is having a great positive effect on the community.”
Last year, Vallone allocated $70,000 through the City Council’s NYC Cleanup Initiative for the Doe Fund to clean streets in Bayside and College Point.
After receiving community input and requests, Vallone was able to work with the Doe Fund, a nonprofit that assists formerly homeless men and women, to secure the new routes in Whitestone.
The Greater Whitestone Taxpayers Civic Association, the Welcome to Whitestone Civic Association and the We Love Whitestone Civic Association, all praised the initiative.
Vallone plans to work with the Council and advocate for the initiative to be funded again in the budget for fiscal year 2016.
