By Madina Toure

A Flushing House director received an employee distinction award from LeadingAge New York, an organization that represents not-for-profit care providers.

David Barr, director of operations for the Flushing House, located at 38-20 Bowne St., was given the 2015 Employee of Distinction Award and a $100 check. The ceremony was scheduled ߺAug. 13 at Flushing House.

Since 2003, Barr has been working at the Flushing House, a not-for-profit independent living senior retirement residence.

A few years ago, he became director of operations. He is responsible for day-to day operations, supervising a staff of several management and union employees.

He received the award because of his role in the expansion and renovation of the kitchen and dining room at Flushing House as well as his solution to end basement flooding from Superstorm Sandy.

Due to his technical experience, he determined that the foundation floor needed to be excavated to install an emergency overflow ejector pump.
