Three pedestrians were struck, one losing her life, after two cars crashed in Richmond Hill Tuesday evening when one of the vehicles ran a red light, according to authorities.

At 5:53 p.m., police responded to a 911 call of several pedestrians struck in the vicinity of 108th Street and Atlantic Avenue. Upon arriving, officers found that two vehicles had crashed, resulting in three pedestrians being struck.

According to cops, a preliminary investigation found that a white SUV, being driven by a 43-year-old woman, was traveling westbound on Atlantic Avenue when it ran a red light at 108th Street. While going through the intersection, the car was struck by a black Kia, driven by a 23-year-old woman, going northbound on 108th Street.

The collision between the two vehicles caused the SUV to mount the sidewalk and strike two women, 52 and 48, and a 2-year-old girl.

The drivers of both cars and the pedestrians were taken to Jamaica Hospital, where the 52-year-old pedestrian, later identified as Meena Mahabir, was pronounced dead, police said. The toddler involved in the incident is listed in critical but stable condition and the 48-year-old pedestrian was listed in stable condition.

The two drivers were also listed in stable condition.

According to published reports, the three pedestrians are all family members and were waiting for the bus when they were struck.

An investigation is ongoing by the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad.
