One Woodhaven woman’s charm couldn’t keep her out of handcuffs.
Luander Stephans, 32, was convicted Monday of offering sexual favors and $700 in cash to a police officer who had been investigating a domestic abuse incident at her home last October, according to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.
The bribes were an attempt to drop criminal charges against Stephans and once they failed, she then falsely reported that the same cop had sexually abused her while inside the police precinct station.
“[Stephans] was willing to besmirch the reputation and integrity of a police officer in order to escape responsibility for her criminal actions,” Brown said. “Fortunately, the truth prevailed, and she will now be punished for her misdeeds.”
According to prosecutors, police from the 102nd Precinct arrived at Stephans’ home at about 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 16, 2014, in response to an alleged domestic violence incident and found that her husband had previously been issued an order of protection, which at the time was still in effect.
While an investigation was taking place, Stephans offered to give the investigating officer $700 in cash and her phone number so they could go on dates and have sex – if all the charges against her were dropped.
Stephans then followed by falsely reporting that the same cop had locked her inside a room in the precinct, turned off the lights and groped her and touched her intimate parts under her clothes, authorities said.
Her allegations were investigated and were determined to be unsupported.
Stephans was convicted on Oct. 26 of third-degree bribery and falsely reporting an incident. Sentencing is set for Nov. 23 where she faces up to seven years in jail.
