Councilman Peter Koo partnered with several community groups last week to make Thanksgiving a more special time for Flushing’s neediest residents.

Koo, as well as organizations like the Flushing Chinese Business Association and H&Y Marketplace, distributed 220 turkeys to senior centers, public housing tenants and religious groups. The Nov. 19 giveaway is an annual tradition for the councilman, who has been providing Flushing residents with the Thanksgiving bird for about seven years.

Among those that received turkeys were Bland House Senior Center, St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church, Nan Shan Senior Center and the Latimer Gardens Community Center.

Some of the turkeys will be raffled off to individual families, while others will be prepared as part of communal Thanksgiving feasts.
